Set up MSS Order Tagger: Auto Tags
From install to your first tagged order. Each step names the menu or button you will see.
Before you start
- A Shopify store where you can install apps.
- One tagging job in mind, for example: tag customers with 2 or more orders as repeat.
Steps
- Open the MSS Order Tagger: Auto Tags listing on the Shopify App Store, select Install, and approve the permissions.
- In your Shopify admin, open Apps, then MSS Order Tagger: Auto Tags. The app opens on the Tag Rules page.
- Select Create rule. Then type the rule as a sentence under Describe your rule and select Compile with AI, pick a starter rule and select Use this template, or select Start from scratch. Each way opens the same rule form, which you check and finish in the next steps.
- Enter a Rule name. The form then has two parts: Conditions and Outcome.
- Under Conditions, select Add condition. For each condition, choose Order, Customer, or Product (each condition has its own choice), then pick a Field and an Operator and enter a Value. With two or more conditions in a group, choose all (AND) or any (OR); Add condition group adds another group. With two or more groups, set Match to all groups (AND), the default, or any group (OR).
- Under Outcome, select Add outcome. Set Action to Add tag or Remove tag, choose Tag the order, Tag the customer, or Tag the product, and enter the Tag value. Apply after (days) and Expire after (days) are optional.
- Under Preview, below the form, choose Recent sample or Specific entity, then Orders, Customers, or Products (for a specific entity, also enter its ID), and select Run preview. Each record is listed as Would tag or No match, with each condition marked Pass or Fail; check that the right records match.
- Select Create rule to save it. The app returns to the Tag Rules page, where the new rule shows as Enabled: a rule is on as soon as it is saved, and Disable turns it off. Matching orders, customers, and edited products are tagged as they come in or change.
- Open Activity log to see each tag the app added or removed.
- Optional, on the Growth and Pro plans. In the Tag Rules list, select the rule's name to open Edit tag rule. Then select "Apply to existing store history", then "Start backfill" in the dialog that opens, to apply the rule to existing customers and the last 60 days of orders.
